Coaching Quotables

''Too often in this country, youth coaches sacrifice learning skills for winning games. Often coaches won't let players take chances by passing the ball around a lot. The quicker you get the ball forward, the less likely it is that it will be stolen and lead to a quick counterattack. While valid, this shortsighted philosophy can be counterproductive to developing athletes who can play the game with the same grace, skill and power that has come to typify the U.S. Women's National team.''

Jonathan_BornsteinFavorite coach and why: My dad. He was my coach in AYSO for a long time. He was always very encouraging and pushed me to be the best player I could be.

How it felt to score the game-tying goal for the U.S. vs. Costa Rica: I couldn't believe it! I just got my head in there and the ball went in. Just as the goal I scored to win the Turkey Tournament in AYSO was the defining moment of my childhood soccer career, this goal is - so far - the defining moment of my professional career.

Advice for parents : Don't scream at your kids. I don't want to be one of those parents who is always screaming at games. I remember having to tell my dad to stop screaming at me during a game when I was playing at UCLA. It was so embarrassing!

Thank You Volunteers

We would like to thank all the volunteers that work hard so we can have a successful program with AYSO and the city of Walnut.. Without volunteer coaches, referees, team parents, and other wonderful volunteers it would be impossible to provide the children of our community the opportunity to participate in our program. Thank you to everyone.
